Penn National Casino to Open Later This Year

Penn National Gaming’s Hollywood Casino (l.) at a mall in York, Pennsylvania is on track to open in the second half of 2021, according to comments by the operator.

The Hollywood Casino at York Galleria, Penn National Gaming’s first Category 4 satellite casino, is slated to open in the second half of 2021, a Penn official told WHTM News in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

The mini-casino will be the second in Pennsylvania to open in a retail mall location, after Cordish Companies’ Live! Casino Pittsburgh in the Westmoreland Mall on the other side of the state. Category 4 casinos are limited to 750 slots and 40 table games, and must be tied to an existing Category 1 (racetrack) or Category 2 (stand-alone) casino license.

We expect to open during the second half 2021; more details to come in the coming months,” Jeff Morris, vice-president of public affairs for Penn National — which will own and operate the casino — said in an email to the news station.

Penn also has resumed construction on its second Category 4 casino, in Morgantown in Berks County. That also is targeted to open in the second half of 2021.
