Covid Wasn’t Kind to New York Casinos

New York State’s four commercial casinos including Rivers Schenectady (l.) saw gaming revenues fall nearly 60 percent last year. Nine racinos took it on the chin as well. Their take was down 62 percent.

Gaming revenue at New York’s four commercial casinos fell by almost 60 percent in 2020.

The result isn’t surprising, considering the properties were closed by state order for nearly six months last year and then opened at severely reduced capacities.

Resorts World Catskills in Monticello led the commercial market with $87 million in revenue, a decline of 58 percent compared with 2019. Rivers Casino & Resort in Schenectady was second with $76.1 million. Rivers also suffered the least on a percentage basis, recording a decline of 55 percent. Del Lago Resort and Casino in the Finger Lakes region reported $61.2 million in revenue, down 61 percent. Tioga Downs Casino near Binghamton in the Southern Tier reported $35.5 million, down 57 percent.

The state’s nine racinos saw combined revenue drop 62 percent.
