2020 Starts On a High Note for PA Casinos

Pennsylvania’s 12 operating casinos registered a 17 percent year-over-year increase in gaming revenue in January, headed up by the two casinos operated by Penn National Gaming.

Pennsylvania’s 12 casinos, along with sports fantasy contests and video gaming terminals, combined for a 17 percent increase in gaming revenue in January when compared to the same month of 2019.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported that total gaming revenue was $302.8 million, which included $124.1 million of tax revenue. Slot revenue made up the bulk of the revenue at $190.1 million, while table games accounted for $72.5 million. Over the year, slots saw a 5.8 percent increase, while table games had a $2.4 percent decline.

Meanwhile, VGTs at truck stops brought in $1.1 million and fantasy contests netted $2 million.

Rounding out the month, internet gaming revenue was $13.9 million and sports wagering revenue was $22.8 million.

For Wyomissing-based Penn National Gaming Inc., total revenue was up at the two casinos it runs in the state. Hollywood Casino at Penn National in Dauphin County had total revenue of $21.4 million, a year-over-year increase of 17.5 percent. The Meadows Casino in Washington County had revenue of $20.9 million, an increase of 9.4 percent from January 2019.
