Virus Curtails NFL Draft Fest

NFL Draft festivities were expected to draw 350,000 sports fans to Las Vegas next month. Covid-19 put a stop to that, but the draft itself will go on in a virtual format.

The National Football League canceled plans to hold its annual college player draft in Las Vegas in April, foiling the plans of an estimated 350,000 visitors. More than a year of planning to turn the Las Vegas Strip into the center of football will be significantly altered, as the NFL mulls a response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This decision reflects our foremost priority—the health and safety of all fans and citizens,” Commissioner Roger Goodell in a statement.

The clubs’ selection of players will proceed April 23-25, and the NFL hopes to come up with innovative options to present on TV.
